Thanks for the thoughtful response. I studied Zionism in school from a Jewish perspective and have been reading further on other perspectives on Zionism. I think it's fair to say I'm not Zionist but I could live with Liberal Zionism in the same way, most of us live with a liberal nationalism in that I am comfortable with Ireland existing as much as I am comfortable with Israel existing.
However, the current Zionism (the revisionist one) that has taken hold of the Israeli government has allowed violence go beyond levels of any form of acceptability in my view. I don't particularly find any religion more rational than any other but I take your point that there is always a logic of sorts to Jewish law, and it tends to be reasonably pragmatic and consistent.
Finally I don't think Israel is solely to blame. This isn't good vs evil. Both sides want each other's annihilation, This is two very bad sides unwilling to step back for the betterment of their citizens. Until the sides agree to come to a solution, this will never end, in my view.
